How to Fight Coronavirus Fear and Anxiety

With the Coronavirus going around, a lot of fear and anxiety has gone around with it. I'm not here to tell you that your fear isn't justified, because it is, but rather to help you through your fear and anxiety. There are easy steps you can take to ease your pain.

1.) Listen to medical professionals.

Learn how to wash your hands properly, eat healthily, exercise regularly, carry around hand sanitizer, and do what you have to do to stay healthy.

2.) Avoid excessive physical contact.

This is normally the last thing I would recommend to soothe anxiety, because most of the time, avoiding your source of anxiety only makes it worse, but in this case, you should probably avoid physical contact (especially with strangers) for the most part.

3.) Think about what anxiety looks like for you and learn how to cope.

For example, I get chest pains. What I do to cope with this is breathing exercises.

Here is a list of other things you could do:

  • Try yoga on your own (or anything new).

  • Draw/write/color/painting.

  • Meditate (I recommend the app called Headspace).

  • Hang out with family and friends.

  • Take a nice, long shower/bath.

  • Garden

  • Cook/bake.

4.) Avoid the media.

Hearing too much about the Coronavirus can only cause your anxiety and fear to worsen.

5.) Get professional help if needed.

It's normal to feel anxiety in these situations and there is no shame in getting help to control it.
