How You Know It's Prejudice

It's come to my attention that there are many instances when my friends and I disagree that something is racist, xenophobic, or just prejudice in some way, so here are some ways you can tell that something is prejudice and needs to be stopped.

1.) Favoriting one group of people over another. (Usually intense favoritism, but not always.) Examples: --Preferring male workers over female workers. --Preferring Americans over Immigrants.

2.) Disrespecting an entire group of people or generalizing about a whole group of people. Examples: --Saying women are weak. --Saying that white people are racist. --Saying that African- American people are stupid.

3.) Disrespecting one person because they are a part of a certain group of people.

  1. Examples:

--Grabbing a woman because you can. --Calling someone the N-word because they're African- American.

4.) Being rude to a person of a minority, when if they were someone who's not a part of that minority, you would act differently.

Examples:

--Overreacting because of something an African-American did, but if they were white and did the same thing, you wouldn't have reacted the same. --Being rude to a woman you dislike, but tolerating a man you dislike.

5.) Holding certain standards for one group of people but not the others.

Examples:

--Expecting men to have body hair, and women to have none.

--Expecting women to cook and clean, and not men.
