Women and girls can do anything men and boys can do. Period.
The reasons I find empowering women & girls to be so important?
1.) It's Their Right.
It's a female's (and male's) right to do what makes them happy if that happens to mean doing something outside of gender roles and social standards, then who are you to judge? You should support them no matter what. And quite frankly, doing otherwise is kinda sexist.
2.) It Means Healthier Lives.
"When girls are educated, healthy, and empowered, families are healthier," according to unfoundation.org and according to worldwildlife.org
"In many parts of the developing world, women of all ages play a critical role in managing natural resources, which they rely on for food, water, medicine and fuelwood for their families. Yet they often are excluded from participating in community decisions about resource use."
3.) It Breaks the Cycle of Poverty.
"Research from the Brookings Institution has found that every additional year of school increases a girls’ eventual wages by an average of 12% – earnings she invests back into her family." -- unfoundation.org
4.) Strengthening Economies.
“Increasing the number of women completing secondary education by just 1 percent could increase a country’s economic growth by 0.3 percent." The Brooks Institute found.
5.) It's Only The Right Thing to do!
"Investing in girls is one of the smartest things we can do to promote a healthier, more prosperous world. More importantly, it’s the right thing to do. Every girl has the right to be in charge of her future and her fate, and we have the collective obligation to protect her rights and promote her wellbeing." -- unfoundation.org
6.) Small Businesses.
"From home-based micro-businesses to small startups and shops, women will create over half of the 9.72 million new small-business jobs Forbes is predicting," Says matadornetwork.com as well as that, "Not only are women creating more jobs, the National Federation for Independent Businesses says women-owned small businesses weather recessions more effectively and show more adaptability than men-owned small businesses."
